I tried home assistant in docker. Easyetoeget working but for some unknown they make it hard to install extentions so I couldn’t get some things working.

i installed openhab instead which works though there are less extentions available.

Email is often impossible. you can run your own server but you won’t be able to send email to many people because gmail and other larre providers will ignore everything from any ip address you can get. you endeup with email for only people on you server and the what is the point.

just a warning there. Some do self host email but it is the most difficult to host. My life is much better now that I pay fastmail to handle my email.

Start small. The hard part isn’t installing a lot of software and getting it running. The hard part is keeping everything updated over time. So install one interesting service, and then figure out how the update process goes before installing another. Hopefully the worst thing that happens is you install services and use them only to have the computer fail in a few years after you depend on them and you can’t figure out how to get the data into the new version. There is also the very real possibility that your service is compromised by an attacker.

Don’t aim for 100%. Just 90% would be good. Make it a point when buying something to look for someone else first. Often there is a widget.com company that sells the same thing for a similar price but they have experts to write up the description and so help you choose which of the 100 different manufactures is really best for you. Every brand says they have the best, but often there are differences an expert would know about that you will never figure out on amazon.

Amazon reviews are terrible - sure what you choose worked for your purposes, but almost nobody buys all 100 (or even 10 of them) and compares, and thus you don’t know if this works but should be a 3 star because of how much better something they didn’t buy is.

first question: do you really need to do/fix anything. Everything you have said could just mean you fail in some bragging contest, but the plane works just fine. If the plane works for the wood you are working with then don’t worry about showing off how closed a mouth you can get. If you choose wood well you don’t need the plane as perfectly setup. Now onto your question:

It doesn’t need to be smooth, but smoother surfaces make find adjustments easier (sometimes possible at all) so you want it smooth enough.

I haven’t used that plane, but in general the things you buy at a box store are not great tools. I’d use it for wood where I expect to encounter nails or rocks (if you are using a smoother that better not happen, but for some rough wood it might). Then spend 5-10x the price on a good plane from a major brand… If you can’t afford a good plane (great used ones pop up at garage sales all the time), I’d contact hock tools (or other custom blade maker) about getting new blade made of quality steel. The cutting blade on cheap tools is often a really bad alloy and cannot be made good. A blade in O1 or A2 steel (there are other good choices and it often seems more like a religious debate than anything of facts when people discuss: choose something) with a good sharpening system (even more religious than the blade alloy discussions) will solve a lot of problems.

Seriously, start with a good quality blade and a good sharpening system. You will spend more than the plane on a good blade, and probably twice that on a good sharpening system. However this will be your best investments. A sharpening system will last a lifetime, and if you decide the plane is hopeless your new blade will fit whatever you buy to replace it.

I live in an area with a lot of iron. I cannot trust a compass to always point north. Generally I’ve had no problems in the woods: follow the trails that are on the maps, or at least stay close enough that you can always find them again and you are fine. (until of course you are not)

Are your teeth able to do significant damage? You can of course dent the plastic shell, but the inside is protected by harder things.

They should be slow to do this type of thing. If this becomes easy or common then the EU will break up.

My NAS is behind a firewall and doesn’t normally run the types of things you would compromise. (no web browser). They need to break many things at the same time to compromise it. I’m not saying it would be impossible to compromise my NAS, but is is very unlikely just because of how difficult it is. If I’m target of a state level attack I’m sunk anyway.

though offline backups are always a good idea. However they by definition need several days to restore (if they take less than that they are too easy for an attacker to target)

I put all my data on a NAS with non-writable snapshots so hackers cannot destroy my data.

Remember he is still in the first 100 days - traditionally the time when a new president has the most power. As time goes on congress (the house and 1/3rd the senate) will start looking at the coming election and make decisions that will get them re-elected. If that means voting against the president they will do it. However it will only happen if they think enough people care about the issue that they would turn out and vote against them.

What matters most are republicans and independent voters. The democrats won’t vote for the republican no matter what and they know that so they don’t care. There should be two screens. One only visible from the navigators seat and always available. The other can be where it makes sense, but it should be disabled for all input when the car is not in park. When the car is in motion only limited information is allowed - you shouldn’t be able to tell what the name of the song playing is as that isn’t something you have any business reading. You should get some indication of what the next turn is, but even that needs serious UX work to ensure it is not distracting.

Just remember any backup is better than nothing. Even if the backup is done wrong (this includes untested!) odds are you can read it and extract at least some data, it just may take a lot of time. Backups that are done right just mean that when (not if!) your computers break you are quickly back up and running.

There are several reasons to backup data only and not the full system. First you may be unable to find a computer exactly/enough like the one that broke, and so the old system backup won’t even run. Second, even if you can find an identical enough system, do you want to, or maybe it is time to upgrade anyway - there are pros and cons of arm (raspberry pi) vs x86 servers (there are other obscure options you might want but those are the main ones), and you may want to switch anyway since you have. Third, odds are some of the services need to be upgraded and so you may as well use this forced computer time to apply the upgrade. Last, you may change how many servers you have, should you split services to different computers, or maybe consolidate the services on the system that died to some other server you already have.

The only advantage of a full system backup is when they work they are the fastest way to get going again.

The volume down is important.
