This is great news! Thanks, and also great that you are making it source from the off!

Ernest will no doubt correct me if I’m wrong, but I think he’s also said he’d prefer to leave aps to those for whome it is a core strength.
I think he knows it’s something the community would like, so I think the post you link above was in reaction to Artimis unfortunately going offline and the App (for now) dieing with it (since nobody seems able to contact the developer). I suspect it’s something Ernest will progress ‘in his free time’ if no other apps which live up to his ambitions are developed first!
A key difference here is we can see who downvoted which I think makes people more cautious to downvote. I guess Lemmy users aren’t used to that however (but it might change their behaviour when they realise we can see!)
how it should work on kbin.social [?]
In my view ideally upvotes and downvotes federate both ways, but I can also see why some admins might choose not to federate in downvotes.
I guess the real question comes down to what you do with the information.
I think currently the sort order is very heavily skewed towards boosts (which I actually quite like), but I do also sometimes wonder how it would look if the sort order was aligned with the reputation system (i.e. boost= two upvotes).
Having both sort options available might be nice, (noting that we’ll not federate in any boosts from Lemmy).
If we did federate in downvotes the current sort order (which seems based on boosts less downvotes?) probably wouldn’t make sense?
…I’m also be keen to see others thoughts on this!

Like this?
kbin does that just fine.
Or just type it in using the Google stock keyboard on Android… 😜
Edit: and kbin does very much support emoji.
Indeed, and then there is a whole raft of searching, sorting and filtering options for Microblog posts (aka Toots) which kbin does, and which Lemmy can’t even see.
@ernest Woah, this makes a heck of a difference. That’s powerful!
I love the way that kbin gives you far more options to sort the Microblog feed than, say, Mastodon.
Most popular posts (by people I’m subscribed to) from the last week. Go. Boom!
I love it!
Hariette posted something a while back on Mastodon about illness. I think she said she was improving, but not much news since.
Hope she’s OK.
Whole domain is blocked for me, no issues:
Yes you can block them. The issue with other content vanishing when domains were blocked by individual users has been fixed by this update.
Nice, so many improvements!
@ernest I (preemptively) did a summary of the benefits which this update has just brought to kbin.social over on matrix a while back. Will you share a version of that or something similar?
But they are taking about monitoring public facing social media - frankly I think it would be daft if they did not do this.
If a be teaching assistant starts publicly posting harmful harmful content there should indeed be systems on place to ensure this is identified and appropriate action taken.
If you post publicly you have to assume everybody, including your employer, might see it.
@soweli@kbin.social There is certainly some truth to that, but
You’ll find you get more interaction from within kbin (and also from Lemmy) if you use ‘Threads’ rather than ‘Posts’ (like this). Posts sit in the Microblog and are more aligned to Mastodon way of working - they are harder to see unless people already follow you.
A few things to remember here:
CEOs aren’t daft, they will respond to manipulate the survey results to show what they want it to show. Through no fault by the survey this is likely not what CEOs really think.
Stated preference surveys are often undertaken to support investment decisions, but it is well known that ‘stated preference’ and ‘realised preference’ are often different things.
…also for many jobs better candidates will seek out more flexible employers. These same better team members will also more on if there is any suggestion they are being unfavorably treated due to flexible working arrangements. My point is, for many (not all) the employment market will force employers to accept more remote working than happened before the pandemic. There was a trend in this direction even before the pandemic, there is a perspective to say COVID was a catalyst for more remote working, and the return will never be complete.
To give an example here is this thread on kbin.cafe:
https://kbin.cafe/m/kbinMeta@kbin.social/t/154483/We-re-back
Afraid not, each instance is independent in that sense so you need to go through the whole account creation again (although you can use the same username again, assuming it’s free).
That said, as with this instance, you can browse without needing to be logged in.
In terms of other kbin instances take a look here:
https://fedidb.org/software/kbin
Or here:
https://kbin.fediverse.observer/map
There is an option for this under settings which is likely to be more fruitful than a comment in a thread.
