  • Yeah, the “workers vs owners” theme is pretty explicit. imo they are making an analogy to reading theory with the brother-in-law’s self help book (the passage about employers needing their workers more than the other way around is pretty blunt). However, I interpret this comparison as a critique of Marxist theory because the self help book is portrayed as being really silly and self aggrandizing. The book is only helpful to “babies” or “children,” which is repeatedly how the Innies are referred to.

    Like other shows with anti capitalist themes, I think it is written by libs and is neither a threat to power nor a way to organize people (Mark Fisher refers to this phenomenon as the capture of iconoclasm in Capitalist Realism) but it’s still an entertaining show. I’m looking forward to watching season 2, and will keep looking for these themes, but I don’t expect Mark S to become Lenin or anything, lol.
