I mean, I’m glad you agree. As a community the only thing people can do is make posting censored content something taboo. Hopefully after enough of this people will get the hint. I mean, it’s working, if you’re annoyed by it then just engage with content that doesn’t have this unnecessary censorship and downvote and move on from posts that do. That way you’ll avoid people whining about censored words, there’s a whole genre of posts that have exactly none of that.

There’s plenty of reasons why in these posts. Hell, you ostensibly agree that these words shouldn’t be censored but you come to the posts and ask why it’s a big deal? The reaction isn’t too extreme, it’s simply the only thing to do if we want to keep the community clear of this without trying to get the mods to censor the post themselves or something. So it’s quite literally the least big deal to make while still trying to shape the community.

As I mentioned, the only reason to try to get these posts to stop is either you’re in favor of censorship or you’re in favor of maintaining the status quo in order to not see these comments, which is tacitly in favor of the censorship as that is the norm right now.

It’s conservative in the most basic sense of the word (not in our modern political sense). You see someone upsetting the status quo (questioning why people need to censor things on an internet forum) and the reaction is: “Why do these people care so much? It’s fine, there’s no problem with censoring it’s never bothered me.” Most people think this way, but most people don’t post about it.

There are two different ways to take it: one way is you actually agree with the censorship but either don’t have an argument or don’t want to argue so instead vaguely post about apathy, painting the other side as losers who care too much.

Another way is what I said before, it’s a reactionary “ugh” as you pass by, wondering why people have their panties in a twist about someone censoring the word “kill” from one meme.

Unfortunately, I think apathy towards this, (while very cool and nonchalant and badass don’t get me wrong) is about as annoying.

And it’s interesting that I see these posts posing as apathy under every single complaint about censorship. I mean at some point it’s reactionary.

I think h3 is kind of a hidden nexus of fringe->main stream internet culture throughout the last like 15 years. Every wave Ethan has ridden has never been the main thing, it’s always right on the periphery of mainstream internet culture. That way he has cultivated a tiny amount of fans from every wave but never enough to get him into the public eye, and as a result everyone who knows him thinks they know someone “under ground” and he doesn’t shy away from that branding.

I don’t think it’s Machiavellian. I think it’s more just that Ethan has always held incoherent views (like everyone in the world) and his brand is to be unapologetically opinionated, so now that he’s dug his heels in on Gaza there’s no moving him until he has fully crashed and burned.

I mean he’s Jewish and his wife is from Israel, they have family members or at least know people personally who are in Israel and have their whole life, so the propaganda they’ve been fed is ingrained in their family identity.

It’s not an excuse, it’s sad to see, but as you pointed out he’s always declared himself a “capitalist” and has taken some pretty right wing positions. It’s just to say it’s not intentional, just a stupid dude who doesn’t work to hard to form opinions about stuff. I wouldn’t say this about every grifter, it’s just that H3 started out much more innocently and I don’t think they spent a decade keeping up a ruse like that I think it was genuine. I mean you really think he was doing Vape Nashe videos concocting how he was going to infiltrate internet culture to push right wing propaganda?

Yeah I think based on how stories work there’s definitely going to be a pretty major twist. If there’s not that would suck but so much of the story is being telegraphed and I think the quality of the writing so far has proven that the show runners probably know that. If it’s the same team that brought as scavenger’s reign then I have faith right now.

This show has a lot going against it imo.

A plot that’s straight out of a highschool dropout’s mushroom-fueld fantasy (complete with the self-insert).

Characters that are based on vague ideas or one-off jokes

Good animation, but a weird lazy-feeling character visual design.

BUT despite that, the show knows exactly what it’s doing and so far everything comes together seamlessly. The writing is tight, quick, and funny and there really has not been a missed story beat so far.

This already happens. Audio recordings can have a hard time holding up in court as a core piece of evidence because low quality audio has been able to be faked for decades now.

Idk, it seems worse that he’s self aware. Before it could be dumping these women because he gets some “ick” about them that he can’t explain. It turns out the ick is a deeply misogynistic fetishization of youth, but if he didn’t put any thought into it at least you could say he’s a toxic product of his culture.

If he’s aware of it then it’s something he could be working on and changing and he instead makes the active choice not to do anything about it.
