Netflix: takes chance on relatively unknown creators’ dystopic show about capitalism and the rich exploiting the poor for entertainment

sees program become a surprise mega-success

makes a reality show emulating the plot of the show, for profit

They basically built the fucking Torment Nexus! 🤦

I mean that should have been obvious when they turned a dystopian novel into the bluprint for reality TV. It’s called Big Brother for a reason. Movies like The Truman Show and EdTV showed the dark side of being under constant public surveillance and now influencers turn their lifes into reallity TV willingly.

The Truman Show is not a good representation of the realities of influencers semi-permanent visibility.

The choice to do it is the first, and major, difference.

        and now influencers …

And we absolutely eat that shit up. We donate our money to them, buy their shit, and regurgitate every fucking thing they say as if they were goddamn prophets.

Drag thought the point of Squid Game is that risking death to play sick games for the amusement of the rich is better than living under capitalism.

Squid Games is only possible under capitalism. In fact, I’d say SG is peak capitalism.

I suppose but I can’t see what the point would be for say a communist authoritarian society considering they already have control and no one has extra.
