I have over 100 communities in my block list. I scroll through All and if I see a community over and over that I truly don’t care about I just add it to the block list. Scrolling through All becomes a way to find new communities I like instead of being 500 posts I don’t care about
Nice that’s also exactly how I browse Lemmy, so much variety compared to only focusing on communities you subscribed to.

I block NSFW and apparently endless anime communities.

I have blocked a range of conservative, rightwinger, hexbear and lemmygrad communities and instances, copious amounts of furry and anime porn, a great many LGBT communities which i am not the target user for (esp. Nsfw ones), some weird niche porn I really dont want to ever see on my feed, any communities that post ai generated content, and a bunch of others.
All in all about 90 communities I think

Politics. If I wanted to be drenched in political propaganda from bot farms I’d have a Reddit account still.
Picking Lemmy over Reddit is a political choice to begin with, to be fair.
They are probably referring to the almost propaganda-esque two party politics that’s permeated almost every major sub on reddit with useless “gotcha” memes.
Still, on Lemmy it’s pretty much leftists vs liberals, vs reddit where it’s liberals vs fascists.
Which subs have fascists?
Pretty much every conservative-specific space, plus it’s overflowing with zionists and other genocide enthusiasts. I haven’t been on Reddit in years.

That was my main problem with blue sky when I first signed up. I didn’t search for penis.
I was searching for fun and entertaining content and the occasional casual bob and vagene, and I got so much penis.
Like a disgusting amount of penis.
I got so much penis that I started to understand what it felt like to be a girl on a dating site.
Any kind of memes of any type, as a blind person, they are completely useless to me, and quite frankly just annoying.
Have you had good experiences with memes with alt text describing the visual and the joke?
That’s not personally something I’ve ever seen, but if you know of any good communities that add alt text to their memes, I would be interested in at least taking a look. It’s not the memes themselves that I have the problem with, it’s the fact that they are images, and I’ve never seen a single one described unless I’ve asked for it.

I use lemmy in two ways: Whitelist: show me my subscriptions and only those (subscribed) Or blacklisted: show me everything else except the things I want to never see.
The latter lead me to this thread! It’s two different experiences for me and I get a bit out of my interest bubble from time to time.

I prefer to block individual users rather than whole communities simply because doing so could lead to an echo chamber of not proper mitigated.
However, I do block anything related to anime or waifu. And general porn.
I’m not prude, but Lemmy is where I come to discuss/debate a range of topics with others so I’d like to be able to open it in public.
None, I subscribe to the ones I want and occasionally browse all to see if there’s anything new I want to subscribe to.

All the tankie (far “left”) shit. It’s all either bad faith arguments (trolling), blatant propaganda or people who never bothered to fact check the propaganda.
They also create an inordinate amount of communities, had to use the “block instance” button a lot.
NSFW stuff also gets annoying after a while, but that seems less prevalent. (Just had to block one instance to get 99%)
Looking at my block list, the AI images and niece music stuff also got added at some point.

Tankie is far left? I thought it was far right. I admit I never really was sure, though.
If you’re in America, do you see the entire rest of the g-20 as really far left? They do free healthcare and schooling in the g-20 but require almost as much tax as America, and I’m wondering if that makes them appear really far left given America’s parties are center-right and far-right and everyone could have that as their point of view.
I mostly see tankies as an authoritarian (far right?) group pretending to be far left. Or at least that’s how they brand it, even though they openly advocate for government confiscation of all property.
