Shoddy reporting here, The Economist is missing a few important ones like:
Countries that I had a wet dream about China hosting a base
Countries that start with the letter C, like China, that could have a base
Countries that China definitely hasn’t considered hosting a base in but might change their mind someday
Countries with enough undeveloped land to host a Chinese military base
Countries larger than a Chinese military base, and so could probably host one.
Updating all the land area measurements in Wikipedia to units of Probable Number of Chinese Military Bases Hosted
o fuck the us has so many chinese military bases
The Vatican is right out
Countries that I had a wet dream about China hosting a base
came to the fleeting thought that China built a base in Liechtenstein
go ahead Kamala, send your best
Every time you eat dim sum, China gets a new military base

one real base
And the base is located in a country that leases land for military bases like it’s candy to any country that asks lol
And all those bases are for an international anti-piracy mission (though considering present circumstances it’s worth noting that different countries are operating on different definitions of the word “piracy”)
Not to mention…they show China, but it isn’t highlighted as a “Country with a Chinese base”
They can’t even do the colors on the Very Real And Scary Imperialism Map™ right
Yeah I was thinking this. If you wanted to scare monger make China the darkest red and also put down various South China Sea bases “Because they’re in other countries waters!”
So are they saying that having overseas military bases is a bad thing now, or?
They’re trying their damn hardest to conjure up some sort of whataboutism to throw at people who point this out
whataboutism
Precisely, bot
America, Britain and a handful of other military powers have a global network of bases that have existed for decades and are mostly legacies of empire, the second world war and the cold war.
“legacies of empire” lmao. “We’re not building new bases, just continuing to occupy 800 existing ones, so that totes makes our imperialism okay guys!”
those countries WANT those bases there!
Whereas China forced the countries to let them possibly consider propositioning them
yeah but what this doesn’t show is how many bases the US has in the US! the US is overseas from all of these bases
119 bases in Germany
119 bases in Japan
The US military is definitely not the fourth Reich

Here’s a taste of their ideology…

The Economist is a piece of rag that likes to get high on orientalism and neoliberalism…
The Economist is liberal ideology and imperialism distilled
The Economist is what happens when someone parses the first word of “Combat Liberalism” as an adjective instead of a verb.
All the best diagrams contain the word “probably” multiple times
Litteraly no sources, only vibes.
I mean the Djibouti one is accurate. Just omitting that it’s a joint base between China, the west, Japan, etc. for a bunch of merchant mariners or whatever.
Yeah, there is ONE thing that’s kinda accurate, don’t change a lot to me.
source: ourselves, so just trust us bro, it’s probably true
New medical condition just dropped: Cracker Cope Overload.
If I understand things right the ones labeled Chinese bases are more like normal ports that are majority owned by China and PLA Navy boats have docked there before
Ah yes, Pakistan, the country that just had its government replaced on word of the US is totally under threat of hosting a Chinese base.
At this point, why even only go this far? Why not have it say “places China is probably considering conquering in the future.” or something?
Probably considered
Scary western mind reading devices
In surprised they didn’t just include every Chinatown in a majort city as a “base”
flashback to a year ago when Chinese community centers in the US and Canada kept getting accused of being police stations
lmao imagine the US ever “approaching” a country to “host” a base.
It’s like Israel saying they are preparing for pregnancies from Hamas rapes. Words have no meaning. Critical thinking is not a thing.
