What are your guys’ favorite uncommon gadget or tool? Anything you keep on you at all times that you wouldn’t have thought to keep otherwise?
Zip ties? Not that uncommon.
For longer trips I put wet microfiber cloth between windscreen and speedometer. So I can remove bugs from helmet’s visor at almost any moment like waiting for green light.
How do you not just smear the bug guts all over making it worse? I have to know.
Same way when you clean visor in home ;D key part is that microfiber is wet.
Oh, where I’m at that would be dry in 12 mins 😁
The best accessory that I can recommend is a top case. I know they look super dorky but they are by far the most handy way to carry some extra shit while you’re out riding. I had a Givi on my GS that could hold a 30 pack of beer which was very handy.
My wife repurposed a knock-off Pelican from Harbor Freight as a top case for her Honda 300L. I mooch storage space in her top case all the time because my KTM 500 has no structure to support a top case.
I also have a pelican case as a top box!
Jump box, dead batteries suck. It was about $100 jump starts my bike easily, even jump started the work F150 3 times with charge to spare.
I won’t leave a rider stranded if I can help it but I’m getting to damn old to want to help riders bump start their bikes.
I don’t keep them on the bike, but I will always have a vessel impacta screwdriver in my toolbox. It’s a JIS style tip, with built in impact driving for getting things loosened up. I think it’s definitely a must have for anyone that works on vintage Japanese bikes.

I have a round but flat/paddle like thingy that I put on the trottle that I rest my palm on which acts as a cruise control. I love it.
Love my wrist saver! Total game changer on long trips
Happen to have a link to where it can be purchased?
Not going to link a specific site, that way you can choose where to purchase from. But here is a search result for the product the above poster is referring to.
I don’t currently use one myself as my current bike has cruise control. I will say I have used these in the past on my previous 3 bikes that did not have cruise. Yes an absolute game changer for long rides.
IF you have a decent amount of extra cash burning a hole in your pocket the Atlas Throttle Lock is on a whole other level of amazing.
Upgraded my wife from the Cramp Buster to the Atlas. She will not be going back.
Many thanks!
just a bummer those throttle locks are like 100+. before my next trip im gettin one tho
i have a lever on my throttle that wedges against the brake and works like cruise control. i would say, not the best
Wholeheartedly agree. I believe 100% they are over priced. I knew it was over priced when I bought it for the wife’s bike. Then again, I tend to believe just about ever accessory that says “for motorcycle” is over priced. And yet we pay those prices to keep our knees in the breeze, and that shit eatin grin on our faces.
Oh yeah I have one of these knock off cramp busters, they’re brilliant!
My favorite recently is an open source watch project called Watchy that I designed motorcycle themed watchfaces for it.
My bike’s speedometer doesn’t have a clock so I found it really helpful to add a clock and now swapped it out with my Watchy and really digging it and toggling the faces based on my vibe that day. Here is a post showing the watchfaces: https://theatl.social/@bayport/110528737858974445
And here is recent pic where I was sporting the Tintin watchface shows it mounted on the handlebars: https://theatl.social/@bayport/110606841518507332
Man, if you get to the place where it can add the feature where it can show turn-by-turn navigation from OpenStreetMaps, I’d certainly be interested.
My Apple watch vibrates for the turns…but I can’t figure out which is which and under gauntlet and cuff, I’m not going to try to look.
I used to keep a flattened soda can under my seat. Perfect for putting your kickstand down on unstable ground.
The larger of the NEMA electric box blank plates (The reg is 4"x4"; the big is 5x5?) are under $1 at a big box hardware store. They have one hole in 2 corners, meaning I can tie a LONG, bright yellow string to wrap around the throttle so I won’t forget it. Thick galvanized steel, they make a loud clank and spread out over really crappy ground. (+800lb K1600)

Those are definitely nicer and work better but the can solution is also good in a pinch
Roll of toilet paper in a plastic bag, big enough for…emergencies…
chest-wound bandage. Never needed it yet… 2 25’x1" double-thick nylon climbing webbing. Pulled a friend’s bike out of a DEEP ravine with those… Bungie net (customizing it now so those stupid metal hooks stop clawing up my pillion handles; tall enough extension-lines to carry a paper towels pack home from Costco. No, really. More than once.)… 2 cable locks: cheesy one for helmet, bike-sized one to thread through my riding suit. In case my cases are full… Tools. Not having a Torx cost me $600 in towing. (BMW: carry them, micro-to-elephant)… Tools… Spare body panel screws… Spare helmet shield (I saw one fly off a guy in front of me on a group ride once.)… Prescription** athletic safety glasses** (in case of above happening TWICE)… Paracord, (see bungie net) but I’m upgrading that to Dyneema (be careful, that stuff CUTS. Hands, plastic, etc.)… Disposable gloves (for rain, or if I ever need that chest-wound bandage)… Voltmeter… Flashlights. More than 2. Even in broad daylight,… USB Battery pack (if not carrying @FonderThud’s jump-box)… Cooling vest and scarf (I wear 1-piece suits. Debridement scares me)… Conspicuity vest, flag, even a fluorescent microfober rags…
