agreed, making video games has gotta be the worst ROI software job in the world. bad hours, bad pay, bad management. anyone who wanted to be lazy could do so anywhere else but video games.

its pricey but the dualsense edge is my favorite controller of all time.

• symmetrical sticks are better for retro games (dpad position is more comfortable) and modern games (easier to claw grip the dpad to change items while moving for example).
• back buttons are surprisingly useful for every genre. i have dodge bound to the same back button no matter what game or genre im playing.
• hair triggers are great for soulslikes and other action games that dont require analog triggers.

if you have your own domain, then moving off of proton is very painless

i worked at fb a long time ago, it was already exactly like how you describe. everyone was optimizing for their performance review—juicing metrics and prioritizing for the short term. accountability only existed in a 6-month cycle.

if you want really high actuation force then you should look into spring swapping with some heavy springs (85g or more imo).

i think the characters and story are a definite high spot. the game is saying something about pollution and capitalism and how the two enable each other. it’s a little hammy but i really respect the devs for going for it.

but… the game feels really janky to play. it doesn’t have the tightness of the fromsoft souls games. it feels like a souls game was shoehorned into the default unity physics with no finesse.

this is a smartass answer but if no video game is catching your attention, don’t play a video game. do anything else. pick up a new hobby or revisit an old one.
