Admittedly I’m not very knowledgeable about different pruning ways. I’m friends with a gardener and usually follow their recommendations. We have one very old and large apple tree that we would like to keep alive as long as possible (fruit bearing or not) and some new trees where we don’t cut too much except for inwards-growing water sprouts. Generally prioritizing harvest and tree resilience, plus some extras with the old tree.

What’s not working? I just set up TrueNAS for the first time, went with 25.04 and figured I could just update my way out of potential bugs, but the updater is broken :D

I would run Debian from a stick and install Proxmox with the installer and not on top of Debian unless you have to. While the latter works, I found some settings around network interfaces to differ between the installation methods which caused me problems here and there.

Did you check Mint recently? If it’s been a while, it could also be dust buildup at the fan.

If you want to have domains assigned to local IP addresses, you can also use Pihole as a local DNS! It’s a very nice tool for adblocking on network level anyways, can only recommend it.

I hadn’t heard of Talos Linux, sounds cool! We are using haproxy as ingress controller with stepca for local certificates at work.

None. I won’t install something that checks the whole system, but maybe a tool something that checks installed packages or container images against some known cve database and alerts me if it has findings.

Personally I’m mostly involved with my homelab migration so there’s not too much on the selfhosting page except os updates. I set up meshmini earlier to access my thin clients via vPro/AMT but I need to configure the clients before being able to actually using meshmini. Once I’m done with that I’ll finally be able to set up Lemmy and Pine pods.

My selfhosted stuff currently works fine without me doing much which feels good and lets me focus on hardware stuff currently.

Die Gewerkschaften des DGB haben die Branchen “aufgeteilt”, IG Metall vertritt idR Industrie, Ver.di Dienstleistungen, IG Bau was der Name sagt etc. DGB ist so ein bisschen der “Standard” und wenn du nach einer großen Gewerkschaft suchst, bist du bei deren Kontaktformular richtig, die vermitteln dich an die passende.

Die hier schon genannte FAU ist dagegen branchenübergreifend und für alle offen, da wird man beim lokalen Syndikat Mitglied. Es gibt in der FAU aber auch Vernetzung zu bestimmten Branchen. Sie haben einen anderen Ansatz und setzen eher auf bottom up, Selbstorganisation und Perspektive über ein bisschen bessere Bedingungen hinaus.

Ich hab gesagt dass deine Vorschläge allein leider kaum Effekt haben, nicht, dass ich dass Allheilmittel habe.

Dieses Widerholen von “macht doch mal ne Spendenaktion oder sammelt Müll, hauptsache es stört niemanden” (beides für sich nicht verkehrt, aber ohne wahrnehmbaren Effekt über lokale Ebene hinaus) hat vor allem den Effekt, die Legitimität auf solche “netten” Aktionen zu beschränken. Es reicht eben nicht und wenn sich alle auf sowas konzentrieren, wird überhaupt nichts passieren. Deswegen ist es auch wichtig, dass “gemäßigte” Gruppen solidarisch mit solchen sind, die sich eben nicht an alle Regeln halten - und dass letzteren die Prozesse bezahlt werden, sonst haben wir nachher nur noch Wohlfühlaktivismus weil alle anderen im Knast sitzen oder sich nicht trauen.

Was ich für sinnvoller halte: Blockaden an den Stellen, wo sie als direkte Aktion auch wirklich auf eine Verringerung der Emissionen oder zumindest des Profits mit klimaschädlichem hinwirken, z.B. Kohleabbau- oder Kraftwerke, Waldrodung, Pipelines, etc. Auch Straßenblockaden gehen grundsätzlich in diese Richtung, aber damit trifft man halt vor allem viele Leute die nicht viele Alternativen haben und dadurch Stress im Alltag kriegen, während andere Aktionen wie von Ende Gelände oder Waldbesetzungen sehr gezielt bei den Hauptverursachern/verantwortlichen stören. Da gibt es auch deutlich mehr gesellschaftliche Akzeptanz und Unterstützung. Ist aber halt meistens nur sehr eingeschränkt bis gar nicht legal.

Legaler: Bei der Arbeit oder darauf hinwirken, dass bessere Umweltstandards eingehalten werden, dafür mit der Belegschaft/Gewerkschaft kämpfen. Aber der Organisierungsgrad ist ja leider sehr niedrig momentan und wenn da von der Geschäftsführung ein “wir vergiften weniger die Umwelt aber dafür können wir leider die Löhne ein paar Jahre nicht erhöhen um unsere Profite nicht zu gefährden” kommt, muss man da auch erstmal gegen ankommen. Das ist halt nichts, was man mal eben mit 5 Leuten in ein paar Tagen organisiert bekommt, anders als zumindest kleinere Blockaden.

Der Mix macht’s. Es braucht sowohl eine breite Unterstützung in der Bevölkerung (wofür deine genannten Aktivitäten wichtig und effektiv sind) als auch Aktionen die wirklich Druck auf die Verursacher ausüben.

Not answering every single point but generally: I’d set up proxmox, test everything, make notes, reach a state/config that you like, and then start over doing it “properly” from start.

No, but you’ll have much more overhead. I have a VM that hosts all Docker deployments which don’t need much disk space (most of them)

Alle diese Vorschläge wurden in den letzten 30 Jahren vielfach in verschiedensten Konstellationen durchgeführt mit sehr überschaubarem Effekt. Wenn man sich darauf beschränkt, kann man es auch fast lassen.

Personally I’m waiting for Ghost to support Activitypub but generally exposing WordPress is perfectly fine.
