Discord calls it a server but its really just a different term for a chat room. Discord does not allow you to host on your own infrastructure its all locked down and closed source.
They are not hosting it themselves. All infrastructure is fully controlled by Discord and they are subject to all Discord rules and decisions.
You can’t host your own Discord server
Added one more to the pile
Not OP but, my TV has a local api. I connected it to my network so I can control it via home assistant. That can be one reason why. Of course, its also on a VLAN that has no access to the WAN.
I do believe I tried that but I’ll try again, thanks.
The only thing that sucks about it is some sites just flat out don’t work well. For example, in Librewolf I cannot login to my banks website. The site loads, but the login just hangs. Firefox it works immediately.
I use ducks AI chat to help me with small tasks and its honestly pretty great. Always worked and has provided me with useful results.
They claim its anonymous, maybe they are lying, maybe they are not. I make sure to rinse anything I put in there first just in case.
How are you installing Signal? I installed it from their website and it was constantly throwing up messages about missing play store.
I think its possible to do, I just gave up too soon. To get approval from my wife it has to be better than Spotify, and even if I got it to work, it just won’t ever be better so I gave up for now.
Pretty much the only way I’ll be able to replace it is if it enshittifies a lot more. Like certain record labels dropping out or something along those lines. She wants to use 1 single app for all her music and podcasts and at the moment, that can’t be done well. Spotify has to do something dumb to Nerf its value proposition.
I’ve wanted to replace Spotify for years but have never been able to do it. Everyone here will suggest you just use Jellyfin, but that doesnt solve the discovery problem. My idea was basically using spot-dl to download playlist and add them to my music library. But it would always break after a few days and the metadata was always all messed up.
I mean it all cones down to what features you use. For example, my kids live off smart collections, and in Plex you can pin them right to the home screen, and that experience is unified across TVs and tablets. You can’t do that yet in Jellyfin yet.
I would absolutely switch if I didn’t have kids though. I already tried. So many complaints and we went back to Plex. One day I will switch though when Plex goes belly up or gets bought its an inevitability.
You actually want a cloudfare tunnel if youre going to do that. It protects your real IP. Hosting a fediverse instance will draw attention to your real IP eventually otherwise.
Not only that, but Trump spent the last 8 years purging the republican party of disloyalist. The first term Trump met resistance by his own party. This time anyone left who would resist him is gone and anyone who wants to will just be removed shortly after.
Does anyone have any recommendations for migrating their Plex library over to Jellyfin? One day I fully expect to migrate over but when I do i want my full watch/listen history to come with me.
Also grew up spending a lot of time in front of screens, vision is 20/15
I mean imagine migrating to a new server. One of my server has like 30 containers. Now my outage is 3 hours instead of 45 mins.
I’m not complaining, however. It is a free service they are providing.
It sounds like it will keep functioning on fire sticks and tablets.
I print the occasional random coloring page for my kids. Thats about it.
