Time for Fediverse yet anyone?
I’m hearing Twitch streamers say they just move their stuff to YouTube. Good call giving YouTube more power obviously couldn’t backfire.

671·1 month agoI’ve talked to friends that were very excited Trump won. Recently tried having an open conversation with someone that left my community afterwards over the conversations because I didn’t come to his side.
They just believe it’ll be better. What better? They don’t know. They can’t verbalize, because they’re told it’s terrible now and will be better.
They believe Trump isn’t a criminal, didn’t incite violence on Jan 6, the woke people are out to get them, etc. I’ve literally asked people to define “woke” for me when they use it that way. They can’t. They don’t know. They’re not bad people, they’re brainwashed at this point.

I hope. :-D. I’m no Dev, but I enjoy talking to people and I really believe In the Fediverse so just trying to contribute anyway I can to make it a more welcoming and interesting place.
Calling it Fireside Fedi, where I just talk to folks around the Fediverse and get to know them. I have Gabe Kangas first tomorrow. He’s the lead Dev of Owncast. Created a community !firesidefedi@lemmy.world if you’re interested. Fully Fedi powered. Livestream, Voss, socials, eventually setting up Fedi audio player as well.

It gives me hope. We have an opportunity to level the playing field. So much hope that I’m actually starting a show to try to help folks get to know people behind the Fediverse! I truly believe in it and hope we can claw back the internet from the tech giants.

4·1 month agoExcellent Point. If that’s the case though, then wouldn’t other countries follow suit which still limits big tech’s reach and makes them less profitable and less powerful? Idk. Guess we’ll see how it plays out. Either way, I’m staying as far from those ecosystems as possible to at least try to mitigate some of what they do. I’ll never be totally successful, genie is put of the bottle, but we can at least attempt.
Chinese company does what American companies have done for 25+ years now!
Is it time for REAL data privacy laws or are we just gonna keep playing whack-a-mole with Chinese tech companies that get us nowhere?

Alternate RELIGION ( not “religion” ) give women a choice about their body after consulting with licensed medical professionals instead of depending on politicians to decide their choices for them.
