Can’t beat a model M. First time used one was at work. GE used to deploy a variant of the Model M with their Cariolab and Maclab workstations. Had its own custom key cap set specifically for their application functions. So satisfying to type on.
KAM Superuser would look great against the grey case you have.KAM Superuser
Tactile > Clicky, sorry. Lubed and filmed Boba U4 all day.
I second biking. Cycling is great way to exercise and see the world around you.
I hover hand. Tried rests with the Ergodox a while back and it just felt constraining more than supportive.
I may need to rethread the right side. Not surprised by the flex though, was kind of planning on it with the rotation and tilt.
I tried the original dactyl manuform and then found this one (Carbonfette). It’s a huge improvement for me. Splay on my hand is narrower and more comfortable.
I’d be interested in seeing the updated model. I did notice that my model was pretty sensitive so I just dialed down the sensitivity in my mouse settings.
I actually started another project and then hit a dead end. is what I was working on. 7 button (counting the encoder click), pool ball, 3 btu bearings. Was built on an eliteC and a sensor rather than a ploopy PCB to try and reduce overall height and footprint. I just couldn’t sort out programming it so it got shelved.
That’s my design! Super cool to see that someone made it!
I’ve loaded them on Printables.
I’ve since modded it to work with my Norne Project since that upload. But I wasn’t overly happy with the outcome so I haven’t bothered uploading that mod. Currently the dactyl halves are mounted on the tripod ball mount rings from that album. Will get some better pictures when I get home. Would be an interesting post to add here I’d guess.
Wiring it gets a bit iffy when moving into the thumb cluster. You have to have a good deal of wire to get the rows and columns there in order to not pull it loose when repositioning.
You will likely need electrical tape or shrink wrapping on the exposed wiring or resistors so that they don’t short out against the wiring from the main boards.
I haven’t used either of those 3, but I have used a few dactyl manuforms, and an ergodox before that.
For a mech beginner the Moonlanders web customization menu is fantastic. It’s pretty polished and has a lot of the features that you would want or need at an entry level mech user.
If you have experience with soldering you could investigate hardwiring a 3D printed Dactyl. My personal favorite iteration is the Carbonfette version due to theodded thumb cluster.
Personally I use a skeletal, tented manufom: Threaded Dactyl Flex
My mistake. Couldn’t tell if it was blue or was grey and looked like blue due to lighting.
