  • I have both lol, dual ultrawide setup. My main monitor is a 1440p 165hz ultrawide, and i have a 1080p 75hz ultrawide mounted above it that used to be my main monitor before i upgraded. A decent amount of games support ultrawide from my experience, but for some reason mostly japanese games often times don’t support it. Usually you can find guides to edit the exe to enable ultrawide support, but i haven’t had much luck with that myself. I don’t have an oled display or use hdr though, but from my understanding you might be able to make it work in games by using gamescope. For other types of content hdr isn’t really there yet, but the good news is that the required wayland protocol recently got merged, so it should be a matter of time before it will eventually be working. I usually always have atleast 2 windows open on my desktop next to each other, and ultrawide is really great for that because it gives each window more width to work with, so you have lots of space.

  • I’ve been sticking with music players that can output directly through alsa. I settled on strawberry cause it can do that and also has other features that i care about baked in ootb. Deadbeef can also output directly through alsa and i liked it for the most part, but what i didn’t like was that things like mpris support wasn’t baked in, so i would have to mess with plugins. I don’t know if there are any other players that can output directly through alsa, those are the only two that i could find so far.

  • Yeah i must say i’m a bit confused at why youtubers are glazing this 9070 card so much. First of all like you said, prices are still not down to what they used to be before the first mining craze, second of all: why are they pretending that this is the first time amd has a decent answer to an nvidia 70 series card? From what i remember they always had cards that could compete with that, the problem was usually that they couldn’t compete with the 80/90 series cards (which is probably still going to be a problem now). I also don’t see how this is going to impact competition at all. Most people judging by steam surveys are buying 60 series cards, and those people also seem to keep insisting on buying nvidia instead of an amd equivalent, so i’m skeptical.

  • I came to the same conclusion recently. Had a bunch of issues after i decided to try running windows 11 instead of 10 in a vm. One of them being that my usb dac refused to work, turns out after googling and finding a weird random chatgpt article that it was caused by a specific update. Had to roll the update back to solve it. Now i have to hope that they solve it before they decide to force the update on me anyways.

  • I don’t know how to feel about it tbh. My steam deck and vita have oled displays, the tv downstairs has hdr, but it never made as much of a difference imo. Like when i’m sitting at my va monitor i don’t feel like i’m missing anything. Maybe it’s just a personal thing in terms of what you’re most sensitive to. I feel like i’m most sensitive towards refreshrate. I also don’t bother with ray tracing cause even in the best examples like cyberpunk, people usually have to point out the difference to me because i barely notice it.

  • I really love bash scripting. I use it to symlink my dotfiles from my git repo, to configure my void system the way i like it, dmenu scripts, and i also use it on my laptop to send me notifications when my battery is almost empty, when i plug/unplug the charger, when it’s fully charged, and to hibernate when it’s lower than 5%. For some reason apps like upower don’t seem to work on my laptop so bash offered a solution.

  • I didn’t know about bazzite not supporting ntfs. I do agree with you that it’s silly that they don’t allow you to use it, but from my own experience i will say that they are probably right about ntfs having issues in linux. I was using an external drive formatted to ntfs to move stuff between windows and linux, and at one point the entire partition just broke when it was connected to linux. It didn’t seem to be a faulty drive cause after a reformat it worked just fine, but i try to avoid ntfs as much as possible now.
