I’ve never heard this and wouldn’t have believed it even if I did.

Most likely it will work with a VPN, yes. But having lived in America for so long, I never thought I would expect to have to use a VPN to access a website with content censored by our government.
I thought it looked like CloudFlare. Does that mean the US government is leveraging Cloudflare in order to block whatever they choose, assuming it has that as its underlying architecture?
F-Droid is great, but it’s only for FOSS. So it won’t host content like TikTok on it.
APKPure
It looks a little sketchy to me, I’m seeing mixed things on reddit about it.
An alternative application you can use to download Google Play apps is the Aurora Store (https://gitlab.com/AuroraOSS/AuroraStore), but I think it still obtains the files from Google Play.
For some reason I can’t edit my post, however I wanted to add that I attempted to post this to reddit under the /r/Android and /r/google subreddits, but Android is only mod approved posts, and the Google subreddit just straight up removed my post without even informing me.
Isn’t it possible to just move the site under a different domain name, or have mirrored secondary servers in an entirely different location in case the primary one gets taken down?
I’ve always got bad vibes from LTT. He seemed like he always had a “bigger than you” attitude about everything. The things mentioned here exceeded my already existing opinions about him.
I thought about that already. It’s absolutely intentional, because you already know that they’ll keep using those apps, and even if they were illegal, they would keep using them and just get another fine, which is obviously not something that bothers them. It’s to prevent normal people from having any privacy.
Google is evil for sure, but I haven’t read anything about their factory workers leaping from buildings to escape life.
Try again. This is from 1 month ago.
This app is gorgeous with Android Material You!
Funnily enough I saw this exact images on multiple places outside of Lemmy, including on Twitter.
Oh huh, it is a P7P lol

Not to mention their proprietary built in apps aren’t that great. As a Windows user, doing anything to try and interact with any of the content on an iPhone (sync contacts, download photos, etc) was a huge pain in the ass. The amount of holes I had to jump through was so bad it must be intentional.
There’s a clear bias to only give good support to people who have macOS, my main PC is on Windows, and I don’t ever plan on buying a Mac. So it just means I will never own an iPhone again. They kind of dug themselves into a hole of this crappy walled garden and never thought to think it could also bite them in the ass.
I’m hoping this is the direction we go, and I think it will be, though if the Fediverse ever overtook private social media, I’m pretty certain the tech companies would lobby to regulate social media, try to regulate who’s allowed to host web servers, or lobby ISP’s to raise bandwidth costs for people who do host web servers.
I wonder if Amazon is pushing these “protests” to drown out the real ones.
