Old big EMCO lathes had phenolic gears in their gearbox. I know because I got to rebuild one and that was one surprise I came actross and that day I learned about phenolic gears.
Probably also useful as a safety shear point. Better to grind a phenolic gear to dust that to break something expensive.

Also I will never forget the smell of the gear oil.

There were alternatives for text (ICQ, AIM) which were nice and everyone had them, and voice (Teamspeak, Mumble) which were either not free or you had to host them yourself and neither did Videocalls. You’ll laugh but FreeCAD did this exact thing to me on Arch and even worse it did not only associate itself with 3D files, it associated itself with everything that did not have a default set.

Weird Video format? FreeCAD.
Text file with weird file extension? FreeCAD.
Binary File? FreeCAD!
