With kbin it’s the same syntax as Lemmy but you omit the !; plugging in something like freemediaheckyeah@lemmy.fmhy.ml into the search bar will have that community’s sidebar information appear, and from there you can subscribe.

I get more of a early 2000s vibe from the fediverse, with it’s smaller, more intimate communities akin to those old school phpBB and vBulletin forums I used to frequent extremely often, but of course more modernized.

I wouldn’t go back to reddit as a poster/commentator if they reversed their decision. But rather I would continue to use it as a resource, as I usually find typing in “<query> reddit” into Google to be far more useful and time saving than sifting through irrelevant search results and clickbait news articles for a simple question.
