  • Peggy pisses me off man, I love his work but he won’t let go of this Kanye supporting shit even when the man was actively meeting with trump and now when he’s tweeting full on nazi shit. Then when everybody’s calling him out for that while he calls himself any sort of ally he accuses those people of being keyboard warriors and writes songs about how he’s just a target for projection. Like no man ppl are calling you out for materially supporting a fascist for self serving bs reasons

  • Hey one thing I noticed in your safe mobile operating systems section is that you recommend divestOS as an alternative to graphene. I have made the same recommendation for years, but if you aren’t aware that project actually shut down in December so it’s just gone now. A good recommendation that is still maintained is CalyxOS, which also supports bootloader locking after install (at least on pixels, they have caveats for fairphone devices). I haven’t had a chance to read all of your guide yet though, but other than this I’ve enjoyed the parts I’ve gotten to. Thanks for making it!

  • Rust is the future for this sort of systems programming work, and by failing to see that and accommodate its use both Linus and Hellwig are sabotaging the long term viability of the kernel imo. New devs are keen to jump on rust because of how much it does better than C/++ and how much easier it is to make safe and secure systems with it, but shit like this just demotivates that crowd and thins the pool of people who are willing to contribute going forward. We need memory safety by default, the task of kernel stability is only going to get more complex and unsustainable without it. Stop holding onto tradition and purity for the sake of it

  • Mostly thrifted but I have a few pairs of uniqlo chinos for the same reason you stated, that free alteration. I wear black or khaki chinos like 90% of the time, they’re flexible for casual and formal settings so it lets me keep my wardrobe small. Generally all straight cut, with some relaxed or slim fit. I like some room to breathe and don’t want the skinny fit stuff. I also have some dickies and other thicker pants in a similar style for hiking and outdoor work, and some sweatpants for working out. For a long time I had 4 pairs of pants total until I started thrifting. I went to a thrift shop in a college town and got two pairs of brand new pants for $4 each, I love it

  • I will say that I’ll be shocked if they actually quit supporting the Taiwan separatists though. The US just gains too much from supporting them in terms of hard power projection in East Asia, and in utilizing their semiconductor industry. That latter point is becoming more tenuous as the US tries to build its own semiconductor industry, but they still rely heavily on Taiwan for this. Imperialism isn’t gonna stop and they love exploiting the cheap labor there and hopeless political cause of the ROC as a base for military and intelligence operations. It seems the main goal is to stop the soft power and aid to pad the margins of empire a bit more

  • I agree. Especially with Trump’s posturing towards Canada and Mexico with talks of annexation and invasion, it is increasingly clear that the US is starting to view allies and neighbors as targets for their exploitation, and the existing imperial apparatus as dead weight as their own geopolitical position weakens. The US doesn’t want to subsidize the existing organs of empire that it shares with the EU, Canada, etc; rather they want to pare this operation down to refocus themselves, and those who don’t comply with the goals of the empire will get sanctioned, overthrown, or invaded regardless of their previous ally status. They don’t see Western countries as partners in crime anymore, they are targets and liabilities to the US bourgeoisie
