I’m not sure if you’ve realized, but that means nothing. It has become abundantly clear that the law (and lawsuits) are used by the ruling class and not against them. When used against them, it doesn’t matter. They either ignore the fines, pay the pennies, tie it up in court, or in some other way get off scot free.

I’m all for protesting, but make no mistake, people will be made an example of, and it won’t be the oppressors.

  • I’m not even sure I would call it “low income households”, more like “older building/houses”. Plenty of expensive apartment units are in old buildings (I’m looking at you NYC) without proper ventilation.

I own a unit in a co-op in a building that is over 100 years old. I have a gas stove. There is a vent on my above-range microwave but it’s just a filter that blows it back into the room. I do a lot of cooking. I’m in danger.

  • This is why I always try and find a parking spot closest to a cart corral. People go crazy trying to get a spot closest to the front of the store, but ultimately your last stop before getting in your car should be at the cart corral. Yes, sometimes this means parking further away from the front door, but I have functioning legs and walking an extra 30 feet isn’t a problem.

  • Nah, the Stop n Shop I go to has portable scan guns, it’s really the best. If I have to shop somewhere that doesn’t have these, it will ruin my day. For the uninitiated, it’s a portable bar code scanner with a little screen on it. You scan items as you take them off the shelf, put them in your bags, and when you are done shopping there is a “checkout” button on the gun/screen that generates a barcode. Scan that barcode at the self checkout, pay, and be on your way. It is peak grocery shopping efficiency.

  • They have been in hot water before when they were caught scraping data without consent and sending it back to Epic. Folders/files and apparently steam user info?

The client still supposedly phones home with some encrypted data and nobody is completely sure what it is, they say it’s anti-cheat stuff, but then there’s this:

“40% of Epic Games is owned by Tencent they’re a Chinese Tech Company which the Chinese Government has a certain say in what they do. LITERALLY without Tencent Epic would go under they’re the only reason why Epic Games has gotten so many exclusives and given away so many free games. There is LITERALLY a board member in Tencent that was appointed by the Chinese Government.”

So can we trust them? Probably not.

  • It look like Nvme riser cables exist, so your mad scientist approach should still be doable, but you would have to continue doing mad scientist shit.

Nvme riser going to the front of the case, maybe even the top, and then get one of those rubber nipple nubs that exist for holding nvme drives in place, and bam, you can swap the drives pretty easily.

Very niche requirement, but to each their own.

You could just get one big drive and partition it to have multiple OS or whatever it is you need. Then pick which one you want to boot from when you start up. Did they get rid of that ability? I haven’t messed with anything like that in years.

  • Speaking of enshittification, I brought my nephew to an arcade last weekend as a birthday treat. I’m not going to get into the whole “the games are just cell phone games on gigantic screens”, there are a handful of games that are still fun and worth the tokens to play. But the worst thing I didn’t expect to see was this motorcycle racing game. It was your standard sit-and-lean motorcycle game with a throttle etc. But the surprise was that after swiping the card to play, after you choose your motorcycle, you get the option to swipe again for extra boosts. There were micro transactions. In the arcade motorcycle game. I was so mad.
