That’s definitely a listening device, and possibly also a bomb.
My cats wake me up in the morning around the same time, regardless of when I go to bed.
Milei is continuing to ape Trump, including the transphobia:
AP: Argentina’s president bans gender-affirming care for people under age 18
@Torenico@hexbear.net Is this something that Milei can do unilaterally? The article mentions a 2012 law establishing protections.
I was wondering what further indignities that the administration could come up with this week.
I am not looking forward to the gooners.
It looks like r/transgender_surgeries is back up at least.
Link doesn’t work due to the filter. You’ll need to post an archive link
NYU Langone is also notable for pre-emptively complying with the illegal youth gender-affirming care ban, despite it being illegal to deny trans people care in New York.
To me, this seems like a way to go around congress when it comes to funding allocation: move tariff revenues and “cost-savings” from federal fund impoundment to a fund and then use it to pay for presidential priorities/graft.
Honestly, the stock market has become so disconnected from actual consumption/production that I don’t think that any immediate impact will be pretty muted. What will cause a stock market collapse will be if the expanding private debt bubble from people having to rely more and more on credit to deal with inflation pops and triggers a financial collapse like '08.
Just to clarify, this is for pending CDC authored papers, not published papers or papers by non-CDC authors.
Although I am very worried that something similar could happen to PubMed/the National Library of Medicine.
I think this has been the standard for a while? Just like how re-tellings of public domain works can qualify for copyright.
Also, the OPM released a memo to order the implementation of a federal bathroom ban and effectively stripping of any federal recognition of gender identity as a concept: https://bsky.app/profile/erininthemorning.com/post/3lgw7ow7ilc2q
Well, it bans federal funds, but for many minors (and 18-year olds) yes.
Equally alarmingly, the EO instructs HHS to provide “evidence” to de-legitimize gender-affirming care, and as a whole the EO is laying the groundwork for trying to eliminate gender-affirming care for all Americans.
Trump illegally fires NLRB and EEOC appointees: https://www.npr.org/2025/01/28/nx-s1-5277103/nlrb-trump-wilcox-abruzzo-democrats-labor
It really seems that the administration is going all in on unitary executive theory.
It supposedly doesn’t affect aid to individuals, so I think that student loans would fall under that, but with so much ambiguity who knows.
I see that bitcoin began its slide around 6pm EST. Pretty sure that NASDAQ futures were also starting to slide last night.
Crypto is connected almost 1:1 with the US tech sector (as opposed to being an inflation hedge or something like that). So, when tech stocks drop, crypto drops.
I don’t know if the administration is going to openly/explicitly defy these court orders at this point, but they will certainly continue to implicitly or “accidentally” ignore them and get less than a slap on the wrist for that.
