A pastor isn’t much of an authority, is he? I’m from the UK, so the religious are seen more as kooks.
The UK has a national church.
You have a national religion.

I suppose my meaning is the “strongly religious” - as in the ones who include it as part of their identity - are seen as kooks.
The census may list them as Christian, but they’re not attending church or anything.
The King is pretty strongly religious and sees it as a core part of his identity
