Follow up from https://lemm.ee/post/58201093

See https://lemmy.world/c/football for an example of what we would like to do.

The moderation team would stay the same. We’ll keep a pinned post here to say we are moving.

We’ll promote it on !communitypromo@lemmy.ca and !newcommunities@lemmy.world

Impact for people here would be minimal. We can even ping regular posters and commenters like https://lemmy.world/post/24312613

We can always revisit later if needed.

Why not just point it to moviesandtv instead of dividing the conversation into separate movies and TV communities (it doesn’t seem like anyone has requested that delineation), or pointing either one to a community no one’s subscribed to?

There are currently 3 and 2 pinned posts on top of !movies@lemm.ee and !showsandmovies@lemm.ee respectively, merging them would have 5 pinned posts permanently on top.

Also, there are at least different posters, and commenters seem different as well. Mod teams are also different, quite a few people are only interested in movies and not shows and vice versa

The pinned posts seem like a solvable problem: just pin fewer posts. Point taken on different mod teams.

I’m not sure a significant number of people are interested in movies and not TV, and I’m not sure how that’s known except perhaps by subscriber counts (but maybe there was a poll I missed?). I would start from the assumption that there’s significant overlap, but I have no real way of verifying that.

I’m not opposed to the separation of movies and TV in principle. I’m mainly just concerned about how long it would take to rebuild that community.

          !movies@lemm.ee recently had a thread with 274 comments: https://lemm.ee/post/58142821

So there is definitely a population. It is actually a quite popular community on its own on the whole platform with 2.28K users / week and 3.56K users / month. You can see it on https://lemmyverse.net/communities?order=active, it’s in the top 50, and only being dedicated on movies content.

          just pin fewer posts

Those are needed to have both the regular discussion thread and the permanent redirection thread to other relevant communities.

Rebuilding the community shouldn’t take long, as we already have people here. If the content moves and we clearly point to it, people will follow

I am. I mostly only watch TV. I definitely know lots of people who only watch movies and only care to follow movie updates and discussions.

I’m not opposed to the separation of movies and TV in principle. I’m mainly just concerned about how long it would take to rebuild that community.

I mean movies isn’t going anywhere, and one of the communities here - moviesandtv despite the higher subscriber numbers is kinda dead.
