Wait, Americans don’t have to pay tax on incoming packages? I got a replacement jar for like 20 bucks for my Hario grinder from Japan about 2 years ago, and I ended up paying more in import tax than in shipping, and you’re supposed to pay it before the package clears customs.
I remember discovering (the very hard way…) the opposite case when shipping A GIFT to a friend in Europe (non-EU state). I was sure I was being extorted, and I still kinda that’s true on a deep level, but ultimately I checked the laws and yeah it is right there in writing. I just remember being like "anything I ship from now on is “broken. Value: $0"”
