So I did it, I beat Horizon: Forbidden West and now I’m left with that empty feeling inside that I get whenever I finish any game I love. Luckily I still have to finish up a few of the core character side quests. Then I have Burning Shores and Frozen Wilds I haven’t played yet.

My Horizon End Game Thoughts (Major Spoilers)

I sat though the whole end credits when Aloy was flying over the entire game map just hoping she would land somewhere cool and one last cutscene would play. Unfortunately that didn’t happen, but it was still beautiful to watch.

I was so sad when I returned to the base and all my friends were gone, save for Beta and Gaia. Luckily I was able to do a sidequest with Alva after that. I think I just have one more quest with Zo to wrap up as well. I’ll do these before I go to Butning Shores. I’m excited to spend more time with Selens (I hope). I missed seeing him throughout the campaign. He was just in the beginning and the end really. He’s waiting for me at Tilda’s to start the quest. He can wait a little longer.

Prior to the last mission I didn’t want to kill Regalla and would rather she join the final battle. But I really wanted her bow (I looked up the outcomes of the decisions). So in my head cannon, she dies on the battlefield in some form of redemption AND I still get her sick bow.

As for Nemesis…what the actual fuck. Aloy can’t catch a break. Horizon 3 can’t come soon enough. I really really hope it finally has coop. Beta can learn to be like Aloy right? I really thought Varl was going to be set up to be your coop companion in Horizon 3.

When I beat Burning Shores I’m going to have to go back and finally finish Frozen Wilds. Or maybe I’ll do Frozen Wilds first. Haven’t decided yet. For now I’m basking in it all.

Anyway, what’re you all playing? Let’s hear it!

Skyrim. My loyal Jazargo (in full Blades armor) finally died in battle today (screw you Thoron!). RIP. Found a nice final resting place for him, decorated with books and jewels. Then I hired some random companion from an Inn in Solitude. But he will never replace the one and only Jazargo.

I’m astounded by how they’re treating some of the major themes in this game. It’s so gripping and heartfelt for the first time in ages I care about the characters. I care!

Same here. I think I may just play through the campaign and return it though. I don’t feel any motivation to grind or play endgame content. It just isn’t really scratching the itch the same way that Diablo 2 did back in the day.

I’ve played through the campaign and paused it for now. Am interested to see what seasons end up feeling like and if they build anymore interest.

I don’t have the time I used to though, would far rather explore other games at the moment!

Yeah that’s about where I’m at too. There’s way too many great games I haven’t played yet for me to spend dozens or hundreds of hours grinding for gear.

Campaign is nice but it serves as introduction to end game. When you hit level 50 you start collecting paragon points which really improve your character. At world tier 3 new activities become available like hell tides, world bosses, nightmare dungeons etc.

My current main is Druid and he’s awesome. Quite versatile playstyle-wise. You can play as a nature magic caster (lightning, wind, rocks), a shapeshifter (werebear, werwolf), minion summoner (wolfs, ravens, plants) or a combination of the above. Will keep playing Druid till the season starts, then I’ll try a new class. Tried Barbarian already as well and was very cool too. I’m pretty sure all are fun.

Druid sounds really fun. I only played the Necromancer during the beta. Was thinking about starting with sorceress whenever I get it, but it seems like Druid could be just as fun.

I like how you’re not limited to either shapeshifting or spells like in Diablo 2. Instead you change you form dynamically depending on what skill you use.

Similar thing about barbarian I also played - you don’t need to choose between dual-wielding or two-handed, you get 4 weapon slots (2 for dual-wield, and 2 for 2 types of two-handed) and use them depending on which weapon is assigned to a cast skill.

I assume other classes have similar mechanics.

Final Fantasy XVI. I’m a fan of the series, but this game didn’t look appealing until I played the demo. And now I can’t wait to jump on and play some more.

I’m also playing the FFV job Fiesta challenge (random jobs) on my phone.

Playing through Astalon: Tears of the Earth right now. I seem to gravitate to metroidvania games and the last one I played was Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom. The game really lives up to the genre and what makes this one unique is that there are so many screens that it’s near impossible to follow a strategy guide.

Another cool feature is the story gets embedded into every time you die. There’s a reason you keep coming back to life and it’s not because you ran out of health and have to start over. I appreciate when developers put some thought into the experience when you put over a 100 hours into the game.

Definitely would recommend if you’re into Metroidvania games.

I would look it up, thanks for the recommendation.

I played Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom but got stuck at a boss, it was after the Lion shape, at someone’s mansion or castle.

It’d been on my wish list for ages so I was excited to get it on ps plus this month. At first I was surprised at how ‘checkpointy’ it is. I think, for a modern player you’ve got to give it a chance to get going, and for the atmosphere and story to kick in. But yeah, I’m certainly enjoying it and sticking with it.

Finally finished the main story of Diablo 4 (which is pretty slow, I know…) so just started FFXVI. Enjoying it so far though hope the story speeds up a little bit. Feels way darker than any other FF games.

Oh yeah, I am playing it too. Almost at the end of main story, but still have lots of side stuff left to do.

Have you done all tears? Basically after that, and doing all the regional quest, I just wanted to know the story, so went straight for the main quest.

Yea the tears on land I got them. There are some others apparently … maybe underground or in the sky. I noticed I have some empty movie trailers still so that’s why I think that. I actually hate underground… can’t see shit and then the gloom creatures steal your heart containers and you have this hassle of finding a light source to heal or making meals etc… I am willing to bet that there are tears to find underground even though I cannot see a thing. There is also the pirate village I need to visit. I’ve been skating around its edges but I suppose I’m near ready for it. There are actually a few weird things going on that are side quests that I have no idea where to activate them. So tons to do still even though I’m close to fighting Ganon.

Hmm… I can give you a general idea about Tears, if you want. There are 10 in total, and you will know when you have gotten them all. The quest will complete.

I finished the game today, and still have tons of stuff to do. Working on side quests now.

Yea I had it where I got to ride the light dragon which is actually princess zelda. So I got that far but not every single video in my archive is accounted for so I was thinking maybe there are other points of interest I have to get to in order to play out those short movie clips. I’m actually trying to do the deku tree right now… just visiting areas where I haven’t been yet… there’s a shit ton discover… I’m not thrilled about exploring the underworld though. If you want to give me general tips on stuff I won’t mind. Just no major spoilers.

My final loop was wild. I had everything in place to do it but was freaking out the whole time about the party which had screwed me over many times before. A crazy combination of luck and good timing on my part barely got me through it - incredibly satisfying.

Yeah, I tried and failed at the party a bunch of times before the final loop. I did fail at it on my first try of the final, but I nailed it on the second. (I sneak to the top of the mansion, drop down into the room with the beer in it and shut off the valves. Alexis will come down looking for his chocolate beer without anyone else, you can just pop him. It seems to dial down the number of eternalists by a lot once he’s killed.)

Great game. I’m going to go back and check out the other Arkane titles now.
