Good. This was a terrible idea. Even setting aside all the privacy concerns, which are numerous, how well would this have even worked? Trusting algorithms to guess the age of users was only going to result in a ton of people not being able to play a game because the algorithm decided they look like twelve-year olds.

Thank fuck. This won’t be the last attempt at this level of surveillance. Pay attention to open source games because some day things will be so enshittified that avoiding AAA games and only playing regular indie games still won’t be enough.

Open source games never need the same gpu requirements that indie games need, just food for thought. Unity is respectably efficient but it’s no where near as efficient as for example Tux Kart. They really have 3d performance figured out on some of those open source rendering engines.

Totally agree, but most indie games are absolutely fine currently and i don’t see a big downwards trend, actually some bigger studios made very good games in the last few years, not AAA(A) Studios however, they mostly sucked ass.

Idk what exactly you mean here, are you saying that they mine bitcoins on your gpu? Most indie games have better graphics than the few open source games, wich are often 8bit graphics. (no offense to 8 bit graphics, they are great as well)

Go play any modern indie game. You’ll need at least a 1050ti for it to run well. The graphics are good, sure. Now go play something that runs on an open source 3d engine such as Ogre or irrlicht. Tux Kart is a good example of a modernized open source game and Xonotic gets mentioned a lot too (I don’t know/didn’t research what 3d engine Xonotic uses). You’ll get playable performance even if your gpu is trash and the graphics are actually pretty good. If the game you picked has potato ass shit graphics then congratulations you only need a pc that’s 20 years old or newer to run it. Gpu prices are eating gamers alive and it’s getting to the point where the common person isn’t going to be able to play modern pc games anymore if system requirements in games just keep getting higher and higher.

If professional game developers don’t start making performance a priority the Linux nerds will start developing games the same way they made foss replacements for all the unfair paid software. I’m tired of buying computer parts. Video game graphics are already as good as they’re going to get (photorealism for fuck sake), they aren’t getting better but system requirements are getting higher. Not changing anything will just radicalize more people into supporting open source projects instead.
