The aesthetic tweaks to Gboard for Android continue with Google introducing circle keys for some beta testers today.

If they could just stop autocorrecting correctly spelled words to other words I did not intend, that would be great. Had to turn off the whole dang feature because it behaves so poorly.
My favorite is when it autocorrects to the grammatically incorrect version of a word, then underlines it blue with the grammatically correct version!

If they could stop capitalizing every word that could even remotely be a name, that’d be swell. It capitalizes shit like “mark” in the middle of a sentence, for example. So often. And many, many other words, too. It’s maddening!
I switched to FUTO, and it does the same thing since it’s based on the same core code. FUTO has pretty good on-device speech-to-text which is nice.
However, FUTO is much worse at detecting the accidental press of “n” instead of spacebar. Gboard usually figures it out. FUTO usually corrects it to random words. Or not at all.
The N thing gets me too - it seems to be within the last couple years that it’s been an issue for me. I just chalked it up to the ergonomics of big phones, but now I’m wondering if there might be a software component. Like I don’t remember it being a problem at all in the past, but now I gotta be super careful with my typing to notndonthisnallnthentime

Last time I used it (3 weeks ago?),before switching to futo, it had a bad dictionary and never corrected me, futo does and it’s very aggressive (good since I make a lot of mistakes)
That’s weird because your description of Futo is my experience of HeliBoard! Was your autocorrect just not configured to activate aggressively? Well, at least you tried it and found a keyboard that works well for you.
Was set to “aggressive”. Another reason why I switched was for the clipboard, for some reason if I set to “unlimited” retention time, it sometimes clean all non pinned elements. Both are great but I like Futo more
Interesting… maybe I’ll join you myself, lol! However, do you know why it’s not on F-Droid? That puzzles me.
They have their own repo https://app.futo.org/fdroid/repo I wish it had customizable symbols (it does but it’s not as easy as Heliboard)
