Hi, folks!

Feel free to create communities for anything music-related: genres, media, DAWs, techniques, bands, etc. If you need any help or if you’re having trouble, please make a post in the Lemmy community.

Have fun and be kind!

      You’re welcome, and welcome! 🙂

I’m on the same boat… I left Facebook, then Twitter, and now Reddit. And now I’m running my own Mastodon, Pleroma, Pixelfed, and Funkwhale instances. I’m excited about this new cycle of “openness” on the internet.

Hey! Thanks for hosting this neat instance!

Do let know if you need help with the hosting costs! Don’t want to go through hunting down and subscribing to the communities again, lol

Thanks for the offer! I do plan to keep running it for a long time!

Right now the costs are low ($6 per month, but I might bump to a $12 instance next week) and I’m happy to cover that on my own. If things get crazy and we need something more expensive because we have a lot of users — a good problem that have! — then I might set up a way of accepting donations to cover the costs.

Yea, CPU will probably hold just fine. I’m more worried about the memes I’ll pull in that you’ll have to cache, haha.

Hello everyone! I’m a music producer hobbiest from the Netherlands. Trying this out in stead of browsing Reddit. Have not really wrapped my head around the lemmy structure, and found myself not interacting. So this is to make a start ;)

Hello! thanks for setting this up.

I’m new to lemmy and I have a question or two about being a good group member.

Does it impact other local users at all if I subscribe to federated communities from other instances? Like if I join /30Rock does that make it more accessible or apparent to other users here? or only my account?

      Welcome!

My understanding is that a user subscribing to communities in other instances is a good thing for other users, since lemmy.studio will become aware of those instances and communities. This way, when a user searches for something there’s a bigger corpus to search in.

But like mostly everyone, I’m new to this and I could be wrong. 🙂

Hola! I’m a music maker from Colorado. Just wanted to federate with your instance. I am already running one otherwise I probably would have signed up directly with you.

      Thanks!

(I was surprised to see that this post had 2 comments when no users have signed up yet — then I remembered, “of course, it’s federated!”. Such a cool concept!)

Hey, thanks for the instance. Is anyone else unable to visit the site via their browser at the moment? Is there a Matrix channel or something we could check for status updates in the future?

Firefox and Samsung internet on Android aren’t working for me right now. Was fine a few hours ago.

Just tried on desktop (Firefox) and I’m getting the same issue. I was able to get in using a custom frontend though. Must be a lemmyui problem? Since the instance is still accessible otherwise.

I was still having the same problem today, the main page was cached with incorrect headers. I just purged the old cache and hopefully things are now back to normal.

I changed the nameservers today, so it should be unstable for a while. Let me know if you’re still having problems after a couple hours.

We have a Mastodon account for announcements, but I forgot to use it today. https://mastodon.social/@lemmystudio

Good to know, thank you. Good luck with the waveform.social influx. Not sure how big that instance really was.

Yeah, happy to help! Are you trying to find it on your browser or mobile? I just subscribed to it, so I think it should show up now.

Awesome! Thanks so much! To find these other communities, can anyone here subscribe to them, or does it have to be select people? There were two communities I wanted to subscribe to which was the “news” one from kbin, since it has more posts on it ( https://kbin.social/m/news ), and one I made https://kbin.social/m/lostarkgame/

From what I understand, as long as our instance (lemmy.studio) is not blocked by the other instance (or vice-versa), then anyone can subscribe to any community. I wrote a quick guide here on how to find and subscribe to external communities: https://lemmy.studio/post/176
